2026: THE STATE OF ENTERPRISE AI

The labs selling you model access are also competing for your customers' software budgets. Menlo's yearly enterprise AI report estimates the frontier labs now capture 69% of enterprise AI deployment spending. Agents are growing the pie, though, since new budgets funded 55% of the extra AI spend in Menlo's survey, and the firm reads that as companies paying for work software couldn't do before. Startups still take 61% of application spending once the labs' own apps are left out.

WHO WINS THE AI APP LAYER?

AI labs are now shipping products aimed right at vertical AI customers, like OpenAI's tool for lawyers that launched a week after Harvey raised at $15.5B. Most of the value still lands with the apps, as long as they own data the labs can't simulate or buy. Coding took off because the labs can grade it automatically, so the moat is outcome data that only exists when someone does the job, like whether a loan defaulted or a claim got approved. A quick test is to list every outcome your product touches and capture the job byproducts as structured data from day one.

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS BEFORE FUNDRAISING

Most founders start meeting investors the week they start raising, so every coffee turns into a pitch. A former YC partner explains how to build those relationships months ahead so the eventual raise is fast and competitive. The list is bigger than founders think, since more than 4,700 Series A rounds since 2023 were led by about 2,400 different funds. One tactic is to script every intro ("we're not raising, and I want to meet you because of the company you backed") so the meeting doesn't accidentally start a process.

ANALYTICS HAS CHANGED. HERE'S WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Software stopped having near-zero marginal costs once AI features started showing up on the bill. Analytics has to change now that agents both run the analysis and use the product. Agents now create about half of PostHog's dashboards and feature flags, so the team tags every event with whether a human or an agent did it. The same tagging shows a third of orgs query PostHog through agents, and 1 in 5 new orgs signs up through one.

AUTO-CONNECT YOUR ORGANIZATION'S APPS TO CLAUDE

Claude Enterprise-managed auth is an authorization and authentication model for connectors in Claude. It allows administrators to provision connector access centrally instead of having every person authenticate each connector individually. Administrators can control which connectors are enabled, which groups or roles get them, and at what access level. Teams get connectors automatically the first time they log in once they are enabled for an organization.

INTRODUCING: EMAIL ASSISTANT BY SUPERHUMAN MAIL

Superhuman Mail Email Assistant brings the best of Superhuman Mail directly into Gmail and Outlook. It separates what needs a reply from what is just an FYI, resurfaces important conversations, and archives low-priority emails. Email Assistant can draft replies in users' voice and tone using context from other emails and information from online research. Users remain in control of how Email Assistant writes, schedules, and triages.
