NUBANK UNVEILS GLOBAL BRAND REFRESH BY KOTO AHEAD OF US LAUNCH

Koto has refreshed Nubank's global identity ahead of its US expansion, creating a flexible brand system designed to accommodate more than 140 million customers and an expanding portfolio of financial products. The redesign retains the recognizable Nu logo while refining its signature purple, introducing proprietary Nu Sans Display and Nu Sans Text typefaces, and establishing a global library of photography, illustration, and motion assets. The system also extends into conversational AI, in-app animations built with Rive, and a redesigned global website, bringing greater consistency to Nubank's growing international presence.

IPHONE 18 WILL HAVE TWO UPGRADES INSPIRED BY ‘PRO' MODELS, PER LEAK

Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 will reportedly inherit two improvements from the iPhone 18 Pro: longer battery life and a more efficient processor. The new A20 chip is expected to use TSMC's 2-nanometer manufacturing process, potentially delivering significant performance and efficiency gains over previous generations. The standard model is expected in early 2027, but the smaller Dynamic Island will reportedly remain exclusive to Pro models, and a price increase is possible.

IS THIS THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL FONT SINCE COMIC SANS?

AI-generated posters are becoming recognizable through their repeated use of aggressive, upward-slanting brushstroke lettering, prompting comparisons with the much-maligned Comic Sans. ChatGPT attributes the repeated aesthetic to training data that associates oversized, distressed lettering with dramatic, attention-grabbing advertising and promotional graphics. Unlike Comic Sans, which was designed for a specific communication purpose, the AI-generated lettering often imitates expressive typography without understanding its context, turning a once-distinctive style into a visual cliché.

DESIGN FEEDBACK FOR AI AGENTS

Design systems and agent instructions can guide AI-generated interfaces toward consistency, but they cannot anticipate every combination of components, layouts, and product states. A lightweight feedback loop helps close the remaining gap by letting designers annotate screenshots, comment in Figma, or provide spoken and written instructions that agents use to correct visual problems. Intent now integrates this workflow through a macOS screen-feedback feature, while human judgment remains essential for deciding which corrections should become reusable design system rules.

WHAT DOES DESIGN SYSTEM AI READINESS MEAN, ANYWAY?

Making a design system AI-ready requires more than machine-readable documentation, design tokens, MCP servers, and agent skills. AI agents need constraints that guide them toward approved components, patterns, and implementation rules while reducing opportunities for inconsistent or invented solutions. The real measure of readiness is whether AI can participate in the design process without lowering quality, with human judgment remaining essential wherever tacit knowledge and context cannot be fully encoded.

“DESIGNING A GOOD POSTER IS A DARK ART” – HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS YEAR'S INTL POSTER COMPETITION

This year's INTL poster competition drew 2,670 entries from 78 countries, with 190 posters by more than 200 designers on display in Glasgow from November 12–22. Co-founder James Gilchrist calls a great poster near-impossible to design and singles out three trends: layered surfaces, 1990s-inspired collaged typography, and deliberately unprofessional, playful work.

DESIGNING A BETTER FUTURE: YOUR GUIDE TO DESIGN CONTRIBUTION IN OPEN SOURCE

Open-source projects often lack the UX expertise needed to make powerful software approachable, while designers struggle to discover contribution opportunities in developer-oriented environments such as GitHub. Meaningful contributions can include user research, clearer project descriptions, onboarding improvements, navigation, error messages, accessibility, and better documentation of design processes rather than just visual assets. Designers can begin by exploring projects they already use, reviewing contribution guidelines, finding relevant issues, and collaborating directly with maintainers, even without extensive technical knowledge.

SUPERIOR TYPE'S HEAVEN IS A SANS SERIF BUILT ON OVERSIZED ROUND SHAPES

Superior Type's Heaven is a brutalist grotesque designed by Petr Kucera around oversized rounded shapes that appear compressed into rectangular spaces. The typeface includes four families, Heaven 01, 03, 06, and 09, each offering 18 styles from Thin to Black with italics, Latin and Cyrillic support, and a SuperVariable version that transitions from soft, rounded forms to boxier geometry. Distinctive curved letterforms, unconventional diagonals, and optional alternates give designers flexibility for expressive logos and display typography while retaining enough balance for longer text.
