OpenAI's ChatGPT Images 2.5 generates images up to 50% faster, with more natural lighting, richer textures, and steadier detail preservation across edits and long conversations. A new Sketch tool lets users draw a rough reference for the model to build on, while the Flare and Sunburst variants weigh speed against fidelity. The model, rolling out now in ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex plus API access, also adds guardrails, C2PA metadata, and watermarking to flag AI-generated content.

Designers who design and ship, not just hand off files, deserve engineering-level pay, since compensation has long tracked who ships work rather than who shapes it. Levels.fyi data puts median product-designer pay near $170,000 against $226,000 for engineers, with designer compensation growing just 1.8% a year versus faster-compounding engineering salaries. Hybrid design-engineer roles, like one at Ramp spanning $172,000 to $440,000, already pay closer to engineering, and the fix is negotiating a shipped product against that band.

A better process builds a state inventory, embeds those states in realistic tasks and transitions, and measures comprehension and recovery, not just preference, across desktop and mobile. Findings get converted into reusable interface contracts defining triggers, messages, actions, and recovery behavior, so future AI-assisted designs don't reinvent handling for loading, empty, and error states.
