A cutaway server startup pathway shows an oversized network message entering through a narrow UEFI firmware seam before later Secure Boot and TPM security layers load.

CODE-EXECUTION FLAW IN UEFI FIRMWARE AFFECTS MOST SERVERS ON PLANET EARTH

A 16-year-old buffer overflow in TianoCore EDK2's PXE Base Code driver (CVE-2026-97631, CVSS 9.5), the reference UEFI code behind most server firmware, allowed an attacker to send an oversized ICMP error during network boot and execute ring 0 code before Secure Boot and the TPM chain of trust loaded. An AMI pull request leaked the fix months ahead of a January coordinated disclosure, although exploitation required local network access and per-model address tuning. Defenders should request patched firmware from their UEFI vendors, disable PXE boot where feasible, and monitor network boot segments for anomalous ICMP traffic.

LINK BALANCE: HOW STRIPE BUILT THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR AGENTIC COMMERCE

Stripe Link balance is a pre-funded wallet for AI agents that removes per-transaction approval by letting consumers deposit funds and set spending limits upfront, with Instinct as the first integrated assistant. The stack routes fiat through Stripe Crypto Onramp into dollar-denominated stablecoins on Tempo, uses Privy's non-custodial wallets for key management and signing, then converts back to virtual debit cards via Stripe Issuing, so merchants receive standard card transactions with no crypto integration required. Agentic purchases through Link grew 38x in one month, with Muse reporting over 25% of weekly users shopping via agent. The architecture deploys stablecoins as settlement infrastructure rather than a user-facing asset class, keeping crypto rails invisible to both merchants and consumers while solving the approval-friction bottleneck that has constrained autonomous agent commerce.

ANTHROPIC IPO: S-1 BREAKDOWN

Anthropic's S-1 shows extraordinary growth and operating leverage: $16.3 billion of first-half 2026 revenue, roughly 900% net revenue retention, more than $6.6 million of trailing revenue per employee, and a profitable Q2, with consumption-based “pay-for-intelligence” generating 80% of revenue. The biggest questions are durability and infrastructure economics, as Anthropic remains highly dependent on cloud partners, faces enormous forward compute commitments, and operates in a market with low switching costs, even as customer usage and compute efficiency are improving at exceptional rates.

NOT ONLY ARTEX: THE DIFFERENT LEVELS AI IS USED IN ATTACKS TARGETING JAPAN

TrendAI examined three attacker infrastructures targeting Japan, documenting autonomous attacks, AI-assisted planning, and suspected AI-written tools. CyberStrikeAI coordinated 44 agents against at least 19 organizations. Another operator scanned 6,000 Japanese IPs and stole hundreds of thousands of records through default credentials. A third used recovered VPN credentials to enter corporate networks. Evidence came from exposed attacker files. Victim-side confirmation remains incomplete.

GOOGLE PHOTOS ROLLS OUT A CUSTOMIZABLE REDESIGN OF YOUR ‘COLLECTIONS' TAB

Google Photos on Android is getting a customizable Collections tab that lets users pin frequently opened collections, hide sections they rarely use, and rearrange the layout. Favorites, Screenshots, and Trash are pinned by default, while albums, people and pets, places, and other categories get carousels that can be hidden or reordered. The update arrives with Google Photos version 7.97 through a server-side switch, with no broader release date announced.

THE LAST, BEST HOPE FOR SPACE TOURISM JUST ROLLED ONTO A RUNWAY IN ARIZONA

Apeiron, a Delta-class suborbital spacecraft from Virgin Galactic, is being moved from Virgin Galactic's Spaceship Factory in Mesa, Arizona, to Spaceport America in New Mexico. After its arrival, aircraft engineers and technicians will complete work on the vehicle's avionics equipment and flight software. Apeiron will still require several ground tests and test flights before it can make a free flight. Virgin Galactic expects Apeiron's first commercial spaceflight to take place early in the second quarter of 2027.
