ORACLE CLOUD BECOMES THE FIRST HYPERSCALER OUTSIDE GOOGLE TO OFFER TPUS, WITH CAPACITY FROM 2027

TPU capacity will be deployed in OCI's liquid-cooled data centers, tied in through Oracle's Acceleron SmartNIC fabric. Google says its eighth-generation TPU delivers up to 12.6 PFLOPS of FP4 per chip at up to 2x performance per watt, sustains over 97% goodput with optical circuit switching, and cuts network hops by over 50% for up to 80% better low-latency serving performance per dollar.

JAPAN INTERNET GIANT GMO SAYS HACKERS POSTED STOLEN CUSTOMER DATA

GMO Internet says an attacker accessed its Onamae Desktop Cloud service, which serves financial traders. Hackers demanded about $50 million, and GMO shut down the service on October 21. The company says 27,000 servers may be affected. Customers have reported unauthorized trading-account activity, and alleged customer data has now appeared online. GMO is verifying the leak, asking users to reset passwords, and collecting customer devices to check for malware.

LIQUID AI LAUNCHES LFM3 MODELS FOR ON DEVICE AI

LFM3 is a family of open weight text, vision, audio, omni, and decision models built on a shared tri-hybrid backbone, starting in the 2B parameter range. The 1.7B text model beats its 2.6B predecessor with 35% fewer parameters, fits in about 1 GB at 4 bit precision, and supports a 256K context window for agents running on device. LFM3-VL-2B adds video input and matches Gemma 4 12B across 62 vision benchmarks, and every model in the family fine-tunes on a single GPU.

FORMALIZING THE ENORMOUS THEOREM

Axiom Math has released the first complete computer-checked proof of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups (CFSG). The original CFSG proof is considered to be the longest mathematical proof ever written by humans. It spans roughly 15,000 pages in more than 500 articles written by about 100 mathematicians. Engineers and mathematicians at Axiom Math directed swarms of dozens of AI agents over 24 days in a project that produced approximately 43.1 million lines of code in the Lean proof assistant.

SUNLIGHT AT NIGHT: US STARTUP'S DEMONSTRATION OF LIGHTING EARTH FROM SPACE DRAWS CRITICISM

Reflect Orbital is a US-based startup that plans to erect thousands of giant mirrors in space to reflect sunlight onto the Earth during night-time. The Federal Communications Commission has approved the startup's proposal to launch an initial demonstration satellite next year. The test will reflect sunlight in 3-mile-wide beams in strengths from moonlight up to the brightness of the Sun at noon. While the technology could be helpful for search-and-rescue operations, among other applications, critics say that it threatens a harmful change to the separation of night and day, with a huge number of unresolved questions and significant potential impacts.
