GOOGLE ANNOUNCES GEMINI 4 ARGON AI MODEL, BUT YOU CAN'T USE IT YET

Google's Gemini 4 Argon model offers industry-leading performance in coding, knowledge work, and cybersecurity. Google's engineers are already using the model extensively, and Argon-powered agents have been working to migrate C/C++ codebases to Rust across Google. The model supports an output limit of 1 million tokens. It will be priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens for a limited time. The model is still in limited testing, and there is no timeline for when it will be available to enterprise and consumer customers.

A REALISTIC CODE EXECUTION EXPLOIT CHAIN IN OPENBAO AND VAULT

ControlPlane chained four OpenBao flaws into an unauthenticated-to-RCE exploit that forges a SPIFFE provisioner certificate via an ACME URI SAN bypass, hijacks an admin role through case-insensitive ACL paths, and crosses namespaces to restore a malicious Raft snapshot. The final step executes any pre-existing binary whose SHA-256 the attacker can guess, even on read-only images and auto-unseal nodes, and Vault Community Edition remains unpatched after IBM declined a mutual disclosure agreement. Upgrade to OpenBao v2.6.3 or v2.7.0, or, as a stopgap, remove plugin_directory and enforce ACME EAB via BAO_DISABLE_PUBLIC_ACME.

KALSHI TO END LIQUIDITY INCENTIVE PROGRAM AMID WASH TRADING ALLEGATIONS

Kalshi told the CFTC it plans to end its Volume Incentive Program, which paid traders for boosting liquidity, no earlier than October 13. The decision follows reports that the CFTC was examining trades after allegations that repeated $5,500 trades inflated ether perpetual futures volume by more than $5 billion over the past month, though Kalshi says it is not under investigation and attributes the repeated prints to market makers posting fixed quotes that faster traders hit. Kalshi's monthly volume still hit an all-time high of $52.98 billion in September as of September 29, and Ark Invest announced it now holds direct exposure to Kalshi through ARKK, ARKW, and ARKF, while Reuters reported Kalshi is in advanced talks to raise about $1 billion at a $40 billion valuation.

APPLE IS FINALLY READY TO ENTER ITS NEXT BIG CATEGORY: THE SMART HOME

Apple is preparing to launch several smart home devices on October 13. The company plans to ship a smart-home hub, an updated HomePod mini, and a new TV set-top box. The company is developing a broader smart-home ecosystem that expands on HomeKit software and supports new categories of connected products. It is also working with third-party manufacturers on devices designed for the Siri AI home platform.

MOST POWERFUL OBESITY DRUG YET: PEOPLE LOST UP TO 25% OF WEIGHT IN TRIAL

Late-stage clinical trial data on the obesity drug retatrutide showed an average loss of 25% of body weight after 90 weeks. More than a third of the participants taking the drug in the trial lost 30% or more of their weight. The drug also helped reduce knee pain and sleep apnea events, and it improved cardiometabolic measurements across the board. At the start of the trial, more than a third of trial participants had prediabetes - the condition had resolved in more than 90% of those participants by the end.
