OPENAI'S NEW CODEX APP HITS 1M+ DOWNLOADS IN FIRST WEEK — BUT LIMITS MAY BE COMING TO FREE AND GO USERS

OpenAI's standalone Codex application surpassed a million downloads in its first week of availability. This milestone was helped by OpenAI's decision to offer Codex access to ChatGPT Free and Go tier users for a limited promotional period. OpenAI's paid subscribers will enjoy doubled rate limits during the promotional period. Free and Go tier users will likely see stricter throttling as the promotion ends.

HOW YELP BUILT “YELP ASSISTANT”

Yelp built an AI assistant that answers specific questions about businesses (like “Is the patio heated?”) by pulling evidence from reviews, photos, and business attributes instead of relying on the LLM's own knowledge. The real challenge wasn't the initial prototype, but rather making it production-ready, which meant splitting a single bloated LLM call into specialized stages, keeping data fresh in near real-time, and cutting latency from 10+ seconds down to under 3.5.

BREAKING DOWN CVE-2026-25049: HOW TYPESCRIPT TYPES FAILED N8N'S SECURITY

CVE-2026-25049 (CVSS 9.4) exploits a type confusion flaw in n8n's expression evaluator, bypassing a prior security patch by sending object inputs instead of strings — since TypeScript types are stripped at compile-time, the runtime sanitizer never executed. Attackers use JavaScript destructuring to access the Function constructor and achieve unauthenticated RCE via public webhook endpoints, exposing stored credentials, API keys, and internal network access. Users should upgrade to n8n versions 1.123.17 or 2.5.2 and implement runtime type validation using typeof checks or a schema validation library such as Zod.

POLYMARKET SUES MASSACHUSETTS OVER WHO REGULATES PREDICTION MARKETS

Polymarket filed a federal lawsuit against Massachusetts, arguing that prediction markets are federally regulated derivatives under the CFTC's authority, not state-level gambling products, as states like Massachusetts and Nevada move to shut down sports-related event contracts. The case highlights a growing state-vs-federal conflict that could determine whether prediction markets are governed nationally as financial instruments or locally as gambling, especially as the CFTC signals a more permissive stance.

AIRPODS PRO 4 COULD FEATURE CAMERAS TO 'SEE AROUND YOU'

The next AirPods Pro will be able to see its surroundings to provide hand gesture recognition and create an enhanced spatial audio experience with the Apple Vision Pro headset. They will be released at the same $249 price as the current model. Apple tends to wait around three years to make major changes to AirPods, so it is unclear whether the company plans to release a new high-end version of the AirPods Pro 3 or a full-fledged AirPods Pro 4. All AirPods announcements so far have been made at Apple's annual iPhone event in September.

DECODING CHINA'S NEW SPACE PHILOSOPHY

China recently released a plan that lays out its priorities for 2026 through 2030 that contains plenty of ambitious goals for the space sector. The country plans to harvest water from space in the not-too-distant future, with the next five years focused on tech demos on things like robot drills and in-orbit processing. China's plans mention building gigawatt-level space digital infrastructure. It also has the beginnings of a new space tourism industry.
