ANTHROPIC JOINS THE AI AGENT RACE WITH CLAUDE DUET

Anthropic's Claude Duet joins a fast-growing field of AI assistants that take actions and perform tasks on their own. Unlike OpenAI's dots and Meta's Muse, Anthropic's agent was built for work and is less capable at personal errands. It can connect to more than 6,000 outside apps and make purchases through Link, Stripe's digital wallet, and Shopify's Shop Pay. The agent shows users exactly what it plans to do before performing actions, and some actions, like trading stocks or moving money between accounts, are blocked even with user approval. The wait list to use the agent is now open to Anthropic's Pro and Max plan subscribers.

OPENAI MODELS ARE COMING TO GOOGLE CLOUD

OpenAI's frontier models and Codex agentic workflows are coming to Google Cloud's Model Garden. The integration will give customers native access to these models to power complex agentic workflows at scale. It will pair OpenAI's frontier models with Google Cloud's built-in access controls, centralized data governance, and high-performance infrastructure to support demanding enterprise workloads. OpenAI models will soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent.

THE INTERNET GOES ON HIGH ALERT AFTER DISCOVERY OF 8 COMPROMISED TLS CERTS

Eight eMudhra intermediate TLS certificates had private keys of only 3 to 8 bits, allowing anyone who recovered them to sign browser-trusted certificates for arbitrary servers. Browsers, several apps, and programming languages have blocked the certificates. VPN users face the immediate risk from active man-in-the-middle attacks. Updating Linux distributions, embedded systems, IoT devices, and bundled trust stores remains a long remediation effort.

CHECKOUT.COM EXPANDS INTO IN-PERSON PAYMENTS

After 14 years focused purely on online payments, Checkout.com is moving into in-store payments, citing demand from enterprise merchants who want its online acquiring performance in physical stores. The offering is software-led and device-agnostic, so merchants can keep their existing terminals, and online plus in-person run through one acquiring relationship with the same Unified Payments API, contract, and settlement. Mollie (350K+ merchants) is the launch partner, keeping control of its hardware and customer experience while running on Checkout.com's acquiring rails.

INTRODUCING FLINT

Recursive Flint is a mixture-of-experts model built for fast agentic coding on local hardware. It has 40 billion total parameters but activates just 2.5 billion per token. It was built from scratch by a small team of people and agents in under four months. Flint generates more than 125 tokens per second on an M4 Pro MacBook Pro and more than 150 tokens per second on a 64GB NVIDIA RTX Spark at short contexts. It can be used as a daily coding model to complete tasks locally without sending data to a remote server.

PHYSICISTS TRAP AND TAME SINGLE PARTICLE OF ANTIMATTER FOR MONTHS

Physicists at Northwestern University have coaxed a single positron (the antimatter counterpart of an electron) into an exquisitely controlled quantum state for the first time. The scientists cooled the fast-moving particle to nearly absolute zero after capturing it from radioactive decay, and then suspended it in a near-perfect vacuum, resulting in a state where the positron behaved much like an artificial atom with quantum energy levels scientists can precisely control and observe. The technique could enable the most precise test yet of a fundamental symmetry between electrons and their antimatter counterparts.
