GOOGLE DEEPMIND HIRES FORMER CTO OF BOSTON DYNAMICS AS THE COMPANY PUSHES DEEPER INTO ROBOTICS

Google DeepMind has hired Boston Dynamics' former chief technology officer, Aaron Saunders, as its VP of hardware engineering. Saunders is a key part of DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis' vision for Gemini to become a sort of robot operating system. Hassabis is aiming to build an AI system that can work almost out-of-the-box across any body configuration. Boston Dynamics is famous for developing legged robots and humanoid machines capable of impressive acrobatic feats.

SHADERS

Shaders are small programs that run in parallel, using mathematical calculations and knowledge of x and y coordinates to create high-fidelity graphics. The graphics pipeline consists of vertex shading, rasterization, and fragment shading, each playing a specific role in determining the final color of each pixel. Various APIs like OpenGL, DirectX, Metal, and CUDA facilitate interaction with the GPU for both graphics rendering and general-purpose computing tasks.

GRAFANA PATCHES CVSS 10.0 SCIM FLAW ENABLING IMPERSONATION AND PRIVILEGE ESCALATION

A critical vulnerability in Grafana's SCIM user management feature (CVE-2025-41115) allowed attackers to impersonate users or escalate privileges if certain settings were enabled. Only Grafana Enterprise versions 12.0.0 to 12.2.1 with SCIM activated were affected. The flaw, found internally, was quickly patched. Users are strongly urged to update to the latest secure release to prevent exploitation.

MONAD TOKEN SALE ENDS OVERSUBSCRIBED ON COINBASE

Monad's MON public sale on Coinbase, initially feared to be a flop after an early slowdown, closed at roughly $216 million raised in USDC, about 115% of its $187 million target as a last-minute wave of commitments came in. The oversubscribed sale, which offered 7.5% of MON's 100 billion supply, doubles as the first major stress test of Coinbase's new token sale platform. It signals strong retail interest in Monad's high-performance EVM-compatible L1 despite cooler conditions than MegaETH's blockbuster raise.

APPLE IOS 27 TO BE NO-FRILLS ‘SNOW LEOPARD' UPDATE, OTHER THAN NEW AI

iOS 27 will be focused on improving software quality and underlying performance. Many users have reported bugs in iOS 26, including device overheating, unexplained battery drain, user interface glitches, keyboard failures, cellular connectivity issues, app crashes, and sluggishness during system navigation and animations. iOS 27 will also lay the foundations for foldable iPhones and other new hardware. In general, Apple's operating systems next year will revolve mostly around performance and AI.

GOOGLE MUST DOUBLE AI SERVING CAPACITY EVERY 6 MONTHS TO MEET DEMAND, AI INFRASTRUCTURE BOSS TELLS EMPLOYEES

Google aims to be able to deliver over a thousand times more capability, compute, and storage for essentially the same cost, power, and energy level in the next five years. This will require it to double its serving capacity every six months. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta are now expected to collectively spend more than $380 billion on infrastructure this year. Besides infrastructure build-outs, Google plans to bolster its capacity with more efficient models and custom silicon.

WE INDUCED SMELLS WITH ULTRASOUND

Smells are processed in the olfactory bulb, which is tucked behind the top of the nose. Scientists have managed to use ultrasound targeted at the olfactory bulb to induce the sensation of fresh air and ozone and the smell of garbage and burning wood. Smells are strong and localized to the nose, while sensations are more diffuse, like a light tingling on the face. The scientists plan to improve their technique to significantly increase the bit rate of olfactory stimulation.
