OPENAI TESTS CHATGPT AGENT UPGRADES POWERED BY NEW ALPHA MODELS

Some ChatGPT users have spotted a new 'alpha models' section in the model selector. The models appeared for a limited time, and they activated agent mode. The model naming - 'Agent with truncation' and 'Agent with prompt expansion' - suggests that OpenAI may be experimenting with different system prompt setups or underlying model architectures. The release seemed accidental and was quickly rolled back, making model comparisons challenging. The new agent variants appear to be aimed at early adopters, researchers, and power users interested in tool-augmented AI workflows.

HOW CLAUDE CODE IS BUILT

This article provides a look into the development of Claude Code, a popular AI-powered developer tool that generates over $500M in annual revenue. The tool originated from a simple command-line tool using Claude to identify music, then evolved into a sophisticated product with a tech stack including TypeScript, React, Ink, Yoga, and Bun, with 90% of the code written by itself. Claude Code's success is attributed to its rapid development pace, with features built and shipped in days. The team uses AI agents extensively for code reviews and tests.

CISCO WARNS OF IOS ZERO-DAY VULNERABILITY EXPLOITED IN ATTACKS

Cisco has released security updates for CVE-2025-20352, a high-severity zero-day vulnerability in IOS and IOS XE software that's being actively exploited in the wild. The flaw stems from a stack-based buffer overflow in the SNMP subsystem, allowing authenticated attackers to trigger DoS conditions or achieve root-level code execution on vulnerable devices. Cisco strongly recommends upgrading to patched versions immediately, as no workarounds exist beyond limiting SNMP access to trusted users.

US CFTC MAKES TOKENIZED COLLATERAL PUSH WITH STABLECOINS

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is launching an initiative to allow stablecoins as tokenized collateral for margin requirements in the derivatives market, with acting chairman Caroline Pham calling collateral management the "killer app" for stablecoins in markets. Pham continues advancing crypto policy as part of her "crypto sprint" while President Trump's nominee Brian Quintenz remains delayed in confirmation, working alongside SEC Chairman Paul Atkins to integrate digital assets into traditional financial infrastructure. The CFTC is seeking industry input until October 20 on implementing tokenized collateral policies, with support from Circle, Coinbase, and Ripple executives, following the recent President's Working Group report recommending CFTC guidance on tokenized non-cash collateral adoption.

GOOGLE AND QUALCOMM EXECS CONFIRM ANDROID FOR PC IS COMING: 'I'VE SEEN IT, IT IS INCREDIBLE'

Google wants to bring all of its Android AI features and apps to the PC ecosystem. It appears that Android laptops will soon be a reality. Google had confirmed plans to merge ChromeOS and Android into one thing earlier this year. A recent on-stage conversation between Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Google's head of platforms and devices Rick Osterloh at a Qualcomm event (video available in the article) further expanded on those plans.

HUNTINGTON'S DISEASE SUCCESSFULLY TREATED FOR FIRST TIME

Doctors have treated Huntington's disease successfully for the first time. A genetic disease, Huntington's relentlessly kills brain cells. It resembles a combination of dementia, Parkinson's, and motor neuron disease. The new treatment is a type of gene therapy given during 12 to 19 hours of delicate brain surgery. It will likely be very expensive, but it is considered safe. The data shows that, three years after surgery, there was an average 75% slowing of the disease.

HIRING ONLY SENIOR ENGINEERS IS KILLING COMPANIES

There is currently a huge pool of exceptional junior engineers that most companies won't even consider. Smart companies can get a significant advantage by not fighting over seniors and hiring these juniors instead. Shopify recently hired 25 interns and is aiming for 1,000 more by the end of the year because interns bring energy, drive, and intensity, which pushes the whole team forward. While it is safer to hire someone with years of experience who can contribute from day one, the most critical factors - motivation, ambition, character, and brains - have little to do with experience.
