LINUX KERNEL TCP FLAW WITH 9.8 CVSS SCORE AFFECTS UBUNTU, RED HAT, AND OTHER DISTRIBUTIONS

Researchers from Anthropic uncovered a new use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel that could lead to memory corruption, kernel memory reads, or system crashes. The vulnerability stems from a race condition in the TCP handshake and is fixed by ensuring all other CPUs finish reading the socket options before freeing them. Red Hat and other distros rate the vulnerability less severely because the race condition is complex to exploit.

ORACLE WANTS TO BILL YOU FOR EVERY AI TASK, NOT JUST EVERY SEAT

Oracle plans to introduce usage-based AI charges alongside existing subscriptions for its Fusion enterprise applications. Customers will consume AI units as automated tasks are completed, allowing Oracle to grow revenue without adding user licenses. The approach reflects a broader shift in enterprise software pricing from per-seat subscriptions toward charging for automated work, introducing new considerations for software budgets and cost forecasting.

OPENAI NOW LETS YOU TEXT YOUR CHATGPT DOT AGENT TO GET THINGS DONE

ChatGPT Dot can now communicate through iMessage and RCS, letting users assign tasks, send photos or voice notes, and receive proactive updates without opening ChatGPT. Dot can use context from ChatGPT conversations and connected channels to decide where updates belong, while users can specify that only urgent information should arrive by text and approvals still happen inside ChatGPT. The beta is currently limited to ChatGPT Pro users in the US, with one-to-one messaging supported but no group chats, regular phone calls, or FaceTime.

HHS FILING PUTS IRHYTHM DATA BREACH TOLL AT 8.2 MILLION

In June, hackers accessed iRhythm's third-party-hosted business applications, demanded a ransom, and threatened to leak stolen data. HHS now lists 8,179,772 people as affected. Exposed data includes names, contact details, dates of birth, account and device identifiers, insurance numbers, and service dates. iRhythm says it has no evidence of identity theft and found no impact on medical devices, patient safety, manufacturing, or customer connections.
