Nasdaq, NYSE Arca, 24X National Exchange, and Cboe EDGX plan to add overnight trading from 9 PM to 4 AM ET starting December 6, pushing US equities closer to a 23/5 market and responding to growing demand from foreign investors as well as competition from crypto and prediction markets. Overnight volume is still only about 1% of total equity trading, but it has grown 358% year over year, while institutions remain cautious about thin liquidity, wider spreads, and weaker price discovery outside regular hours.
