AI VIDEOS DISPLACE CHINESE ACTORS AND LIVESTREAMERS

AI-generated videos are rapidly displacing human actors, influencers, and livestreamers across China's entertainment industry, with productions already substituting digital performers for real ones. In Q1 2026, roughly 128,000 short dramas were published, triple all of 2025's output. One minute of AI video now costs just $90-$120, about a tenth of human-actor production costs, and some performers must digitize their voice and likeness before being let go.

KUBERNETES V1.37: STORAGE VERSION MIGRATION ENABLED BY DEFAULT

Storage version migration (SVM) is now generally available in Kubernetes v1.37, stable and enabled by default across all clusters running that version. The feature lets cluster administrators migrate stored API resources to a current storage version by creating a declarative StorageVersionMigration object, which the built-in control plane controller then handles automatically. Previously, admins had to rely on manual kubectl scripts or a separate out-of-tree component called kube-storage-version-migrator.

SOLANA VALIDATORS APPROVE DOUBLING DISINFLATION IN FIRST GOVERNANCE VOTE

Solana validators approved SGP-0002, the network's first onchain governance vote, with 72.7% support (excluding abstentions) drawn from 60.70% of the 433.49 million SOL snapshot across 1,326 voters, clearing the required two-thirds supermajority. The proposal doubles the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, removing approximately 18.9 million SOL from future emissions over six years and pulling Solana's 1.5% terminal inflation floor forward from 2032 to mid-2029. Kraken's primary validator switched from opposition to roughly 90% support six hours before voting closed, shifting ~8.1 million SOL, though the proposal would have passed at 69.4% support even without the reversal. Staking infrastructure operators Figment and Everstake voted against, as first-year yields fall from 4.93% to 4.34% and projections show 30 validators becoming unprofitable by year three, while ecosystem developers Helius and Jupiter supported the measure.

QUALCOMM UNVEILS DRAGONWING Q-2390 AND IQ-2390 TO PUSH AI INTO CHEAPER EDGE DEVICES

Qualcomm unveiled two new Dragonwing processors aimed at bringing on-device AI, vision, and connectivity to product categories that have historically struggled with cost, power, and size constraints. The Q-2390 targets consumer and commercial gear like retail kiosks, smart appliances, home robots, and fitness equipment, integrating application compute, on-device AI, camera and display support, and LTE connectivity onto a single chip.

FERVO AND GOOGLE SIGN WORLD'S LARGEST DEAL FOR NEXT-GEN GEOTHERMAL POWER

Fervo has agreed to supply Google with nearly 400 megawatts of clean electricity from its geothermal project in southwest Utah. The facility could be the largest geothermal system in the world when it is completed in 2028. Fervo expects to start generating test power from a 33-megawatt unit in the fourth quarter of this year. The deal with Google supports the buildout of the second 400-megawatt phase slated to be up and running in about two years.
