HOW VIMEO IMPLEMENTED AI-POWERED SUBTITLES

When Vimeo built LLM-powered subtitle translation, they hit a counterintuitive bug: the AI would merge fragmented speech into one clean sentence, leaving empty time slots and blank screens mid-video. The fix was splitting the pipeline into three phases: chunk the source into logical thoughts, translate freely with no structural constraints, then use a separate LLM call just to remap the translated text back into the correct number of timed lines.

NEW PHANTOMRAVEN NPM ATTACK WAVE STEALS DEV DATA VIA 88 PACKAGES

PhantomRaven, an ongoing npm supply-chain campaign active since August 2025, has deployed 88 additional malicious packages across four attack waves, using slopsquatting to mimic projects like Babel and GraphQL Codegen with LLM-suggested package names. The campaign evades automated inspection via Remote Dynamic Dependencies (RDD), in which `package.json` points its dependencies to attacker-controlled external URLs, pulling and executing malware at `npm install` time rather than embedding it in the package itself. The payload harvests `.gitconfig`, `.npmrc`, environment variables, and CI/CD tokens from GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, and CircleCI before exfiltrating to EC2-hosted C2 infrastructure, with 81 packages still live in the registry as of this writing.

ACROSS PROTOCOL PROPOSES TOKEN-TO-EQUITY CONVERSION

Across Protocol put forward a first-in-crypto proposal to dissolve the ACX token structure entirely, offering a token-to-equity exchange at a 1:1 ratio with uniform share class across employees, investors, and public token holders. The stated rationale is that the token structure actively impedes enterprise BD – particularly with tier-1 crypto projects and traditional financial institutions – by forcing agreements to route through a foundation. On the product roadmap, Across is positioning "free bridging" as the inevitable standard for stablecoin issuers by end-of-2026, with the model already live with Native Markets for USDH and two additional undisclosed deals in the pipeline. Longer-term, the team is framing Across's intents-based architecture as foundational infrastructure for agentic payments.

GOOGLE MAPS GETS ITS BIGGEST NAVIGATION REDESIGN IN A DECADE, PLUS MORE AI

Google Maps has implemented a feature called Ask Maps that helps users plan trips and answers complex questions about locations. Powered by Gemini, it is accessible via a button up near the search bar. It works like a chatbot, so users can send follow-up prompts to refine and expand on its suggestions. Ask Maps is rolling out now in the US and India, but only on Android and iOS. Web support will come later.

BUILDING A HOME ROBOT WITH ZERO ROBOT DATA

Data-first home robot company Sunday Robotics has announced a Series B raise. The company's unique approach claims zero robot data, with a focus on real-world data only. It uses exact duplicates of tools mounted on robot arms to collect all of its robot data while data collectors wear a hat that captures wide field-of-view RGB camera images. The company has developed a glove that allows it to create a distributed network of operators to collect high-quality, diverse data at a massive scale.

THE ELUSIVE COST SAVINGS OF THE PREFABRICATED HOME

Factory-manufactured homes can, in certain cases, yield substantial cost savings over conventional construction. A single-wide manufactured home is probably around 40% to 50% cheaper than an equivalent site-built home. However, these savings quickly disappear with larger and more complex homes. This doesn't mean the industrialization of home building is a doomed enterprise, but it does show how it is an enormously complex problem.

THE PERPLEXITY API PLATFORM IS NOW A FULL-STACK, MODEL-AGNOSTIC API PLATFORM FOR BUILDING AGENTS

The Perplexity API platform replaces model providers, search layers, and embeddings. It allows developers to swap between the latest frontier models and configure curated presets, tool access, step limits, and token budgets, all from one endpoint. Developers have direct access to the same index that powers Perplexity to call real-time information with citations within apps and agents. They will also have access to the same execution environment that Perplexity uses internally as a standalone service.
