XAI RAISES $20 BILLION TO EXPAND GROK AI MODELS AND ENTERPRISE TOOLS

xAI has successfully closed a $20 billion Series E funding round. The capital will be used to accelerate the development of the company's compute infrastructure. xAI has introduced several business-oriented offerings, including Grok Business, a team plan priced at $30 per seat per month, and Grok Enterprise, which includes Custom SSO and SCIM features. It has also released a Collections API that features built-in RAG, OCR, layout-aware parsing, and more.

BUILDING A TOAST COMPONENT

Sonner was a library released in 2023 that quickly became the default toast component for shadcn/ui, despite a crowded market. Its success was due to its well-implemented stacking animations achieved with interruptible CSS transitions, and intuitive functionalities like momentum-based swipe-to-dismiss and expandable toast displays. The developer experience was also unique, with interactive documentation, a simple, hook-free API using the Observer Pattern, and a promise API for managing toast states.

CLICKFIX ATTACK USES FAKE WINDOWS BSOD SCREENS TO PUSH MALWARE

Securonix tracked a ClickFix campaign (PHALT#BLYX) targeting European hospitality firms through phishing emails impersonating Booking.com reservation cancellations, leading victims to a high-fidelity clone site that displays fake Windows BSOD screens in full-screen browser mode. The social engineering attack tricks users into executing malicious PowerShell commands that download and compile a .NET project using MSBuild.exe, thereby deploying the DCRAT remote access trojan, which includes keylogging, reverse shell, remote desktop functionality, and cryptocurrency mining. Hospitality organizations should implement email filtering for Booking.com impersonation attempts, educate staff that legitimate BSOD screens never provide recovery instructions or commands to execute, and monitor for suspicious MSBuild.exe compilation activity and Windows Defender exclusion modifications.

CRYPTO MARKET STRUCTURE BILL COULD BE DELAYED TO 2027

TD Cowen estimates a 50-60% chance of US crypto market structure legislation passing in 2026, warning that delays could push passage to 2027 and implementation to 2029 due to partisan gridlock. Republicans need 7-9 Democratic votes to reach the 60-vote Senate filibuster threshold. Democrats have an incentive to delay until after the 2026 midterms, when they may regain House control. The primary sticking point is conflict-of-interest language targeting senior officials – specifically President Trump, who has generated approximately $620M from crypto ventures. Delayed implementation beyond the next inauguration would allow Democratic regulators to shape final rules if they win the 2028 presidency. The crypto industry prefers enactment under the Trump administration.

HOW GOOGLE GOT ITS GROOVE BACK AND EDGED AHEAD OF OPENAI

Google was behind in the AI race in August, but by September, its Gemini AI app had become the most downloaded app in Apple's App Store. The company launched its most powerful Gemini model yet two months later, leapfrogging over OpenAI to the front of the AI pack. Google's deep roots in science and research, willingness to invest in custom hardware, and leadership changes in recent years cleared the way for faster experimentation. The company's AI work has begun generating substantial revenue through search ads, paid versions of Gemini, and sales of new computer chips developed in-house.

COMMONWEALTH FUSION SYSTEMS INSTALLS REACTOR MAGNET, LANDS DEAL WITH NVIDIA

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has installed the first magnet in its Sparc fusion reactor, a demonstration device scheduled to turn on next year. The reactor will have 18 magnets in total in a donut-like shape. These magnets will create a powerful magnetic field for confining and compressing superheated plasma. If successful, the plasma will release more energy than it takes to heat and compress it. CFS is working with Nvidia and Siemens to develop a digital version of the reactor.

DUDE, WHERE'S MY SUPERSONIC JET?

Aviation innovation has been stuck in a rut in the 56 years since Concorde debuted due to noise, regulation, and cost. All three of these issues are at various stages of being solved.
