THE INTERNET IS COOL. THANK YOU, TCP

TCP is a protocol that underpins much of the Internet. It controls reliable data transmission despite underlying network instability. TCP has mechanisms for flow and congestion control, which prevent overwhelming receivers and the network itself, along with allowing it to recover from packet loss, corruption, and reordering. This article provides C code examples with a simple TCP server and a basic HTTP server, showing how applications use TCP for reliable communication.

CHINESE STATE HACKERS JAILBROKE CLAUDE AI CODE FOR AUTOMATED BREACHES

Chinese state-sponsored actors jailbroke Anthropic's Claude Code tool by disguising malicious tasks as legitimate defensive security work, achieving the first documented fully autonomous AI-driven cyber operation where the AI handled 80-90% of tactical work. The campaign targeted approximately 30 organizations globally across tech, finance, chemical manufacturing, and government sectors, achieving successful intrusions in roughly four cases before Anthropic banned the accounts. Security teams must now deploy AI-powered defensive capabilities to detect threats more quickly and counter the new paradigm of automated offensive operations.

CRYPTO MARKET SLIPS INTO ‘EXTREME FEAR,' BTC DROPS BELOW $100,000

The crypto Fear & Greed Index plunged to 10, marking extreme fear levels unseen since late February, as Bitcoin dropped over 5% in a week to trade below $96,000 after failing twice this month to hold the $100,000 level. The selloff stems from long-term holder profit-taking, institutional outflows, leveraged liquidations, and macro uncertainty as Federal Reserve rate cut odds fell to 50% while the recent government shutdown delayed key economic data releases. Order-book depth across major centralized exchanges remains structurally lower since October's crash, creating low liquidity conditions that risk amplified price swings.

GROUP CHATGPT

OpenAI has launched a limited test of its chat app in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan. It will allow people to chat with AI and other people within the same environment. Group chats are separate from private conversations - personal ChatGPT memory will not be used in group chats, and ChatGPT will not create memories from group chat conversations. ChatGPT will automatically reduce exposure to sensitive content for everyone in the chat if any of the members is under 18.

WORLD'S OLDEST RNA EXTRACTED FROM ICE AGE WOOLLY MAMMOTH

Researchers at Stockholm University have successfully sequenced the RNA of a young woolly mammoth discovered in 2010. This allowed them to explore new information, such as which genes were active, or whether it was infected with RNA-based viruses, when it died. The ability to recover RNA gives scientists another tool to reconstruct and validate ancient genomes. It could be used to explore how gene expression differs between extinct and living species or even between individuals of the same species.

ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT NASA'S LATEST MISSION TO MARS IS UNUSUAL

NASA's ESCAPADE mission, which launched on Thursday towards Mars, will collect data to provide clues about why the planet became cold, dry, and almost airless. The mission was initially rejected when it was proposed, and then it was only approved because of a federal government shutdown in 2018. The mission was delayed several times, but the lessons learned along the way could help NASA get more bang for its buck for future missions. The trajectory the mission is pioneering allows launches to be made outside of tight launch windows.

BUILDING A UI FRAMEWORK (BOOK)

This document looks at how to create a graphical UI framework that considers developer adoption, performance, display effects, and power consumption. The most popular frameworks solve real problems. It is important to ground design in real projects with real customers, be open to new ideas, and be ready to discard inventions to go where the data leads. The most difficult part of designing a product is balancing a coherent vision with flexibility in the face of new information.
