GOOGLE HAS A USEFUL QUANTUM ALGORITHM THAT OUTPERFORMS A SUPERCOMPUTER

Google has published a paper describing a computational approach that demonstrates a quantum advantage compared to current algorithms. The effort centers around a concept called 'quantum echoes', a series of operations on the hardware qubits that make up the machine. Using the approach, Google researchers completed a task using quantum computing that could have been done on classical hardware, demonstrating quantum utility. Google has several quantum algorithms in the pipeline, so more announcements are expected soon.

RSC: DO THEY REALLY IMPROVE PERFORMANCE?

This performance analysis compared Client-Side Rendering, Server-Side Rendering, and React Server Components using a semi-real app, measuring metrics like LCP, data visibility, and interactivity gaps. The key finding is that Server Components alone don't improve performance in mixed client/server apps. The real benefits come from Streaming and Suspense combined with server-first data fetching, which achieved the best results (1.28s) but required a lot of refactoring and careful Suspense boundary placement.

RESEARCHERS UNCOVER REMOTE CODE EXECUTION FLAW IN ABANDONED RUST CODE LIBRARY

CVE-2025-62518 is a high-severity boundary-parsing vulnerability (CVSS 8.1) in the abandoned async-tar Rust library that allows remote code execution through file overwriting. The flaw affects critical tools, including the uv package manager, tokio-tar (5+ million downloads), and multiple widely-used forks. The issue highlights the open-source abandonware crisis, where unmaintained code is repeatedly forked, spreading bugs across ecosystems with limited visibility and patchability. Security teams should audit dependencies for async-tar and related forks (tokio-tar, testcontainers, wasmCloud), apply available patches, and establish processes to track abandoned dependencies.

CRYPTO STOCKS PLUNGE WEDNESDAY

Crypto-related stocks suffered heavy losses on Wednesday, with bitcoin miners pivoting to AI infrastructure taking the biggest hit, including Bitfarms, Cipher Mining, Hut 8, and HIVE tumbling 10-15% while Galaxy Digital fell 15% erasing all gains from its recent earnings report despite its growing data center operations. The CoinShares Bitcoin Mining ETF (WGMI) declined 7% as the multi-month rally fueled by investor optimism for lucrative data center deals fizzled out in risk-off markets. Other crypto stocks weren't spared with Bakkt down 7.5% extending weekly losses to nearly 40% after surging 300% earlier in October, Strategy slipping 4% below $290, and Coinbase, Robinhood, Bullish, and Gemini posting 5-6% losses, while bitcoin held around $108,000 after touching $114,000 Tuesday and the Nasdaq declined 1% with chipmakers particularly hard hit.

NEW BITCOIN PROTOCOL MAKES PAYMENTS EASIER

Arkade is a new upper-layer network protocol built on the Bitcoin blockchain that enables more user-friendly payments and extended financial use cases. Many view the protocol as the most important Bitcoin protocol rollout since the Lightning Network back in 2018. Arkade mixes the benefits of the Bitcoin network's inherently decentralized and non-custodial nature with the ease of use and speed of centralized fintech systems. It can be used for a variety of financial use cases, such as lending and trading.
