THE FUTURE OF PROGRAMMING: COPILOTS VS. AGENTS

Microsoft has escalated its competition against startups with the launch of GitHub Spark and multi-model support, intensifying the battle for developer engagement. The AI-driven code generation landscape features three main categories: copilots offering an editor-first experience, agents that automate coding tasks more comprehensively, and custom foundation models developed by companies aiming for model differentiation. AI copilots still face challenges such as outdated API knowledge and the inability to fully automate development processes from coding to deployment.

EVASIVE ZIP CONCATENATION: TROJAN TARGETS WINDOWS USERS

Zip Concatenation is where a threat actor concatenates the binary data of two zip files to attempt to hide the malicious content. An attacker creates two zip files - one that contains a benign document and another that contains malware - and then concatenates the two zip files. The attacker then relies upon the victim and any relevant cybersecurity tools only seeing one of the archives and missing the malicious files. This post breaks down a real-world campaign that used zip concatenation to hide a Trojan in a second archive and shows how 7zip would miss the file but Windows Explorer and Winrar would not.

COMPARING STATIC AND RUNTIME REACHABILITY

This article compares static and runtime reachability, two emerging approaches to determining whether vulnerabilities in code dependencies are actually exploitable. Both offer package-level and function-level capabilities. Static reachability analyzes code repositories to identify potential vulnerabilities during development but can't eliminate false positives completely, while runtime reachability uses agents to monitor actual code execution and provide near-certain identification of exploitable vulnerabilities. Static reachability integrates well with development workflows and doesn't require agent deployment. Runtime reachability offers superior accuracy in identifying truly exploitable vulnerabilities but requires agent installation and currently has limited vendor support.

PROMOTIONS IN ITALICS ARE MORE EFFECTIVE

Using italic fonts in promotional ads can significantly boost consumer engagement. Research has found that slanted italics increase purchase intentions by creating a sense of urgency, as people perceive the promotion as shorter-lived. In one study, 3 times more people clicked on an email link for a Starbucks deal when the text was italicized. Similarly, consumers were 30.7% more likely to buy from a restaurant promotion in italics. The effect is maximized when the slant is sharper (up to 35°) than standard italics, but it fades if the text doesn't promote a specific deal or if the slant is leftward.

WHY YOUR PRODUCT IDEA SOUNDS TOO COMPLICATED

The "Simple to WTF" scale illustrates how product descriptions can range from clear and concise to overly complex and confusing. The simplest descriptions use familiar adjective-noun combinations (e.g. "electric car"), while more complex ones involve niche comparisons (e.g. "X for Y") that can be harder to grasp. Overly detailed or abstract explanations often confuse audiences. Simplifying descriptions by using customer feedback and positioning against familiar categories helps make products more relatable and memorable.

HOW REDDIT BUILT A METADATA STORE THAT HANDLES 100K READS PER SECOND

Reddit built a unified metadata store using AWS Aurora Postgres to handle over 100k reads per second for its massive user base.
