USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO REVERSE ENGINEER HARDWARE

Summary from the TLDR newsletter

Developers are using Claude to debug hardware issues. AIs can read thousands of lines of USB capture, notice sequence repeats with one byte changing, make suggestions on what that byte means, and write the tests to confirm its suggestions. A human is still required to decide what to build and check that the fix runs on real hardware, but AI takes away a lot of the slog. The post includes a link to a harness with a small set of tools that help with reverse engineering Linux drivers.
