AI is more of an economically useful commodity than a supremely intelligent being that will make humanity subservient. Several leaders in the AI industry have recently come out in support of open-weight models. If these leaders believed that AI was going to become conscious and take over the world, they likely wouldn't be as openly pro-diffusion.
