THE 49MB WEB PAGE

Summary from the TLDR Dev newsletter

Modern news websites are bloated, slow, and usually have a lot of ads covering their UIs. Publishers prioritize short-term ad revenue (CPMs) over reader retention, resulting in massive data downloads, constant surveillance, and a high cognitive burden on users. This also shows up in the download size of web pages, some being slow to load because of all the data being downloaded.
