KUBERNETES V1.37: MEMORY QOS GRADUATES TO BETA

Memory QoS has graduated to Beta in Kubernetes v1.37 and is now enabled by default. The feature uses the memory controller on Linux nodes running cgroup v2 to guide the kernel on container memory treatment. The default memoryThrottlingFactor changed to null in this release, ensuring that upgrading clusters does not automatically throttle existing workloads.

CILIUM 1.20: GATEWAY API EXTERNALAUTH, TCPROUTE/UDPROUTE, ENI IPAM FOR IPV6, AND MORE

Cilium 1.20 adds IPv6 support for AWS ENI IPAM and introduces datapath plugins to let third parties extend the eBPF datapath without forking the project. The release also promotes the Multi-Cluster Services API to a stable status and deprecates the legacy mutual authentication feature in favor of the ztunnel proxy. Other updates include a per-pod option to disable source IP verification and a new ClusterNetworkPolicy for admin-level guardrails.

HAVE IT BOTH WAYS: STAY DISCOVERABLE IN SEARCH WHILE DISALLOWING AI TRAINING

Cloudflare has launched a new Disallow AI Training setting that allows website owners to block AI training while remaining indexed for search. Apple, Google, and Microsoft have committed to honoring this preference, which resolves the tradeoff created by mixed-use crawlers. Cloudflare plans to introduce more granular controls for AI summaries by early next year.

LET'S NOT WATER DOWN THE TERMS CONTINUOUS INTEGRATION AND CONTINUOUS DELIVERY

Continuous Integration means merging all changes into a shared mainline at least daily, while Continuous Delivery means keeping software deployable at all times through automated pipelines. The author argues both terms are precise and well-documented, not vague, and warns against diluting their meaning as happened with Agile and DevOps.

THE CAP TABLE YOU DIDN'T NOTICE YOU WERE BUILDING

A SAFE is a promise where an investor gives a company their money, then when the company finally sells stock at a real price, the investor gets shares, usually at a discount or capped at some valuation as a reward for going first. There's no interest, due date, or anything owed if that day never comes. For founders raising a small amount quickly, it's a good trade. For investors, the worst-case percentage locks the moment they sign.

MOMENTUM IS NOT A MOAT

Momentum should not be confused with a moat, which offers lasting defensibility against competitors. Startups can leverage execution and distribution to drive early momentum but need clear paths to defensibility, such as data effects, scale economies, or unique processes. With the rapid pace of AI adoption, startups must focus on building moats early to sustain growth and withstand competitive pressure.

THE CONSUMERIZATION OF HEALTHCARE

People in the US pay far more for far worse coverage and lower life expectancy. However, the system is functioning exactly as it was designed. The employer-based system started as a way for employers to attract workers after a wage freeze in World War II. Healthcare is a super-regulated market, and it is intimidating for founders.

STARSHIP FLIGHT 14 TARGETS FIRST FULL ORBITAL LAUNCH, NET SEPTEMBER 22

SpaceX has set Starship Flight 14 as its first attempt at a full orbital mission, currently targeted no earlier than September 22 (an earlier FCC filing had pointed to September 15), with Booster 21 and Ship 41. The flight is expected to deploy next-gen Starlink V3 satellites, which SpaceX says carry over ten times the capacity of current satellites for "fiber-like" speeds, marking the first time Starship has released operational payloads in orbit rather than flying a suborbital trajectory. Musk confirmed the upper stage won't attempt a tower catch this time, that capability is being saved for Flight 15, where he's given it a 50-60% success chance, while Booster 21 will most likely attempt a soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico following an anomaly during Booster 20's boostback and landing.

OPEN SOURCE SAFETY CONSORTIUM FOR PHYSICAL AUTONOMY LAUNCHED

Move fast and break things is great, until your robot hurts a person. Creating robots that can safely operate around people is incredibly important, but it is also incredibly time-consuming and expensive. The Open Source Safety Consortium aims to fix this using open source. The consortium is an industry collaborative initiative dedicated to defining standardized safety frameworks, reproducible verification procedures, and validation benchmarks for open-source physical AI software stacks. The organization is attempting to bridge the gap between open-source robotic software innovation and rigorous industrial safety certifications. The hope is that future robotics projects can use turn-key products and libraries to build safe robots out of the gate.

META SAYS ITS THIRD-GEN IN-HOUSE AI CHIP BEATS NVIDIA ON EFFICIENCY, DEPLOYING BY EARLY 2027

Meta shares rose after Bloomberg reported the company plans to deploy its third-generation MTIA chip, internally called MTIA 450 or Arke, in data centers during the first half of 2027, with the next version, MTIA 500 (Astrid), set to finish design in about a month and reach data centers by the end of 2027. Twelve new sample chips arrived from TSMC on September 1 performing within 2-3% of simulations, and Yee Jiun Song, the VP overseeing Meta's custom silicon program, said each generation delivers better performance per watt and per dollar than current Nvidia offerings running the same AI models. Meta is developing the chips with Broadcom on design and TSMC on manufacturing, part of a broader push to diversify its silicon supply and reduce reliance on Nvidia.

A PERIPHERAL PATH TO SYSTEM - EXPLOITING LOGI OPTIONS+ FOR SYSTEM SHELLS

Logi Options+, Logitech's widely used app for configuring its mice and keyboards, allowed any standard Windows user to reach SYSTEM because its privileged updater trusted only pipe connections from an agent process the user could inject. Researchers at AmberWolf used that access to override the {depot} path via the reinstall IPC endpoint, which directed a SYSTEM msiexec call to an unsigned MSI that skipped signature checks because the manifest set isSystem to true. The bug is tracked as CVE-2026-12518 and was patched on August 19, so admins should confirm that fleets run a newer build and alert on msiexec spawned by logioptionsplus_updater.exe from user-writable paths.
