LUMON TERMINAL PRO IN APPLE'S ONLINE STORE IS A MASTER-CLASS ON MEDIA MARKETING

Apple's marketing for Severance demonstrates how multimedia storytelling and creativity can elevate a campaign without relying on traditional methods. A fake product listing in the Apple Store, real-world installations in New York, in-show artifacts like “The You You Are” book, and even keyboard replicas created a narrative universe that fans wanted to explore and engage. Unlike ad-saturated platforms, Apple leveraged its own ecosystem to invite audiences into the story, creating buzz through fun and creativity rather than traditional targeting and repetition.

DEVELOPING A TRANSFORMATIONAL VISION FOR AI AND BEYOND

Companies must envision long-term industry shifts to build a strong AI strategy, aligning with Amara's Law, which highlights our tendency to overestimate short-term impacts but underestimate long-term effects. Businesses can innovate proactively instead of merely following trends by anticipating changes in jobs and customer needs.

SCARCITY AND ABUNDANCE IN 2025

Three key themes have emerged in technology's shift from scarcity to abundance: code evolving from capital to labor, AI's relentless Red Queen's Race, and AI agents reshaping economic activity. The greatest impact lies in decentralized, market-driven applications, with onchain agents and stablecoin-based AI transactions leading the way.

WHY DON'T OUR LEADERS CARE ABOUT HOW WE WORK?

Most companies undervalue intentional operating system design, defaulting instead to ad hoc processes shaped by urgency, habit, and limited awareness. Without leadership buy-in or systems-thinking skills, change efforts often stall amid skepticism, inertia, and misaligned incentives.

PASSING TYPESCRIPT REACT COMPONENTS NATIVE HTML ATTRIBUTES

Native HTML element attributes can be passed to TypeScript React components easily. By using React's built-in generic interfaces like InputHTMLAttributes, devs can extend custom component props with standard HTML attributes. This approach avoids creating new components or manually defining all relevant HTML attributes.

A UI MIGHT NOT MAKE IT EASIER

Building self-serve UIs for complex internal systems isn't always good. While seeming to simplify tasks, UIs can mask underlying complexities, engineering needs, and decision-making processes. Instead of adding a UI to make hard work easier, it's better to address the root causes of the difficulty and improve the system's generality and understandability.

ASKING GOOD QUESTIONS IS HARDER THAN GIVING GREAT ANSWERS

While AI is making impressive progress in providing answers and aiding historical research tasks like translation and handwriting recognition, true intelligence lies in asking insightful and unexpected questions, a skill currently missing in AI assessments. Groundbreaking historical research, for example, begins with novel queries that challenge existing assumptions and reveal deeper understandings of the past.

TRACING THE THOUGHTS OF A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL

Anthropic is researching how language models like Claude think by developing tools similar to an "AI microscope" to understand their internal processes. It has made progress in tracing computational circuits, revealing that Claude sometimes uses a universal "language of thought," plans ahead while writing, and occasionally fabricates reasoning. These findings show that Claude can share knowledge across languages, think of rhyming words in advance when writing poetry, and create plausible arguments even if they're not logically sound.

13 THINGS I WOULD HAVE TOLD MYSELF BEFORE BUILDING AN AUTOROUTER

An autorouter is a software tool that automatically routes the connections (traces) between components on a PCB. When building an autorouter, devs should use A* search algorithms, prioritize smart algorithms over implementation language, and use spatial hash indexing over tree data structures. Caching pre-solved solutions and visualizing the problem are also necessary optimization.

THE BITTER LESSON: RETHINKING HOW WE BUILD AI SYSTEMS

AI systems that improve with higher compute power consistently outperform those relying on complex human-designed rules. Like nature, AI thrives when given resources to explore and adapt, rather than being over-engineered. For AI engineers, this means focusing on building systems that can effectively scale with compute, rather than spending time on intricate algorithm optimization.

GOOGLE WILL DEVELOP THE ANDROID OS FULLY IN PRIVATE, AND HERE'S WHY

Google is doing away with its current two-pronged Android development strategy and instead shifting all development internally starting next week. The company previously maintained a public branch and an internal development branch, which resulted in Google spending a lot of time and effort merging patches between the two branches. This change doesn't mean that Google is becoming closed-source - the company will continue to publish the source code for new Android releases, but the frequency of public source code releases for specific Android components will change.

It more recently added a $200 monthly ChatGPT Pro option and is considering charging thousands of dollars per month for certain AI products. The company does not expect to be cash-flow positive until 2029. It has been in talks with regulators to restructure into a for-profit public benefit corporation.

A LOVE LETTER TO THE CSV FORMAT

CSV is often criticized for the wrong reasons. It has many strengths - CSV is dead simple, open and free, text-based, streamable, can be appended to, and succinct. It is dynamically typed, letting developers parse values as they see fit. Reverse CSV is still valid CSV, which means the last rows of a CSV file can be read very efficiently and easily - just feed the bytes of the file in reverse order to a CSV parser. Excel hates CSV, which clearly means CSV must be doing something right.

HAS THE DECLINE OF KNOWLEDGE WORK BEGUN?

The unemployment rate for college graduates has risen 30% since bottoming out in September 2022. Hiring rates have slowed more for jobs that require a college degree than for other jobs. Some economists say that these trends may be short-term in nature and little cause for concern on their own, but there are other signs that the returns on a college degree may have shifted over a longer period - the gap in wages between those with college degrees and those without has flattened during the past 15 years, though it remains large. The flattening of the gap may reflect employers' reduced need for college graduates.

THE VIBE SHIFT AMONGST APPLE DEVELOPERS

Apple's AI product offerings are non-competitive. Software development is moving faster than ever before, and Apple looks like it is increasingly likely to miss out on a generation of developers conditioned on tools like Cursor, Replit, or v0. The company's AI tools remain notably absent. AI may change the equation enough for Apple to shift its stance, but that could take years. Apple could change all of this with web distribution, but that would be very risky for the company.
