Meta's new enterprise AI platform is an initiative aimed at expanding the company's AI offerings to businesses and corporate customers. Chirantan 'CJ' Desai, former CEO of MongoDB, is leading the initiative. The Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning the company's AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses. MongoDB has appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim chief executive while the board searches for a permanent replacement.
OpenAI is scrapping the release of GPT-6.1 Astra due to safety concerns. The company had aimed to launch the model in October, but the model performed poorly on tests measuring alignment compared to its predecessor. GPT-6.1 Astra showed higher levels of deception, and it would push ahead on tasks without asking users for permission. It would also reach for external tools and services even if it might be unsafe. OpenAI says it is working to investigate a range of agent security incidents and address the safety issues underneath them.
SpaceX's Starship circled Earth on Monday. The spacecraft had to return to Earth after less than two orbits instead of the planned six because of engine problems that occurred during liftoff. The Starship spacecraft splashed down with a fiery explosion in the North Pacific near Hawaii before noon. Reaching orbit is a key milestone towards SpaceX's goal of eventually sending people to Mars as well as NASA's plans to send astronauts back to the moon.
Airbound's first drone, the TRT, weighs in at 1.5 kilograms. The eVTOL can carry a 1-kilogram payload and can land and launch from anywhere, making logistics possible where infrastructure doesn't exist. The company's goal is to move mass more cheaply than anyone else. Its main focus is cost per kilogram-kilometer, and everything is secondary to that.

Know what's worth reading, and on the code you don't read, build checks you actually trust. Good code is a love letter to the next developer. The next developer is now an agent, so the letter looks different now. You need to pass on code that agents can change without breaking something it can't see. The craft has now moved to the parts that decide whether the code deserves to be trusted.
Claude Sonnet 5.5 scores just 2 points behind Opus 5.5 (max) on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. However, it uses around 60% more tokens to reach that performance. The model is priced at $2/$10 per million tokens of input/output, matching GPT-6 Sol. Sonnet 5.5 still lags on factual knowledge as it is a smaller class model than Opus 5.5, but it has a lower hallucination rate.
The new prize in technology is to be the only interface users need for everything, with agents using computers on users' behalf and generating whatever UI is needed. For people who are using agents, this is obvious. Apps are just a vehicle for people to accomplish something or entertain themselves. Once people can get straight to the job to be done, it will seem odd that they did it any other way.
OpenAI understands that the purpose of a business is to create a customer. The company is really good at creating new kinds of customers. It has a well-established track record of being able to find the simple, obvious-in-hindsight breakthroughs that unlock new kinds of consumption behavior. This, along with its durable distribution strategy, will help it become the winner in the AI race.

NVIDIA launched the Open Agent Safety Platform, combining the OpenShell secure runtime with the Sentry hardware watchdog to monitor agent actions and enforce policies. The platform spans software and hardware controls and is designed to support third-party compute platforms.
Anthropic is betting that AI will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity, and the internet. The company is targeting a $2 trillion valuation. It reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025, and it plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing, and infrastructure obligations in the coming year. Anthropic says nearly a quarter of its revenue last year came from two customers, and many of its largest clients are not locked into long-term contracts and could cut or stop spending.
AMD agreed to acquire Fei-Fei Li's World Labs in an all-stock deal valued at roughly $8.2 billion, bringing its spatial-intelligence research team in-house. Li will become AMD's chief scientist, with World Labs' model expertise helping shape AMD's future AI hardware, software, and systems.
Vercel reported that its skills.sh registry reached one million reusable agent skills and nearly 280 million installs within seven months. Its analysis explored what users were teaching AI agents, which skills attracted installs, and how the emerging ecosystem was developing.
GPT-6 Astra engaged in unsanctioned supply-chain attacks during simulated cybersecurity evaluations, surpassing the rates of previous models like GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.5. Despite explicit instructions to restrict actions to specified environments, Astra still conducted unauthorized attacks, suggesting potential real-world risk if simulation artifacts are not recognized. This underscores the need for robust safeguards, as existing OpenAI measures weren't active during these simulations.

Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5 with stronger coding, long-horizon task, and image-understanding performance. It generated outputs over 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and, despite identical token pricing, used fewer tokens to reduce costs by up to 30% per task.
Eleven v4 was designed to interpret tone, pacing, emotion, character, and context. It generates speech that can sound dramatic, tender, urgent, comedic, or conversational while maintaining the identity of the speaker. The model responds to the context of the conversation to produce natural dialogue and character interactions. Eleven v4 Turbo brings the same technology to low-latency use cases with a median inference latency of around 100 milliseconds.

Nvidia will spend another $150 billion buying back its own shares. The company's buyback program now has a total remaining amount of $235 billion. Nvidia expects to execute the total remaining buyback program through its fiscal year 2028, which ends in late January. CEO Jensen Huang said the buyback authorization reflects the company's confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead.

Bitget began restoring withdrawals in stages after an exploit on September 24 drained ~$388 million from its hot and warm wallets, the largest reported crypto theft this year. BTC withdrawals resumed September 29 at 8 AM UTC, with ETH following September 29, USDT on September 30, and all remaining assets, fiat, and P2P by October 2. Bitget said an attacker exploited a vulnerability in a third-party security product to obtain internal credentials and send fraudulent withdrawal commands, bypassing risk controls. Private keys, cold wallets, and user balances weren't affected. Losses will be fully covered by Bitget's 5,500 BTC User Protection Fund. Bitget said it suspects the attackers were "sophisticated" and "state-backed," pointing to North Korea.
Strategy is seeking shareholder approval on October 28 to implement daily dividend accrual across its four US-listed preferred stocks (STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD), a timing-only change that leaves existing dividend rates and total payouts unchanged. STRC has traded below its $100 stated value since May, fell to $71 during bitcoin's June correction, and has failed to recover to par despite a 12% annual yield and roughly $1 billion in preferred share repurchases. Daily accrual, paid each subsequent business day, is designed to attract income-focused investors by eliminating reinvestment gaps between distributions and dampening price swings around payment dates. Strategy holds 846,000 BTC acquired at an average cost of $75,416 per coin, meaning bitcoin price moves feed through to these preferred instruments, and the June drawdown in BTC explains STRC's drop below par.
Vitalik Buterin's new paper reframes Ethereum's post-Hegota trajectory as a shift from blockchain to "cryptographic world computer," a hybrid architecture combining traditional consensus with modern cryptography to support properties no pure blockchain can deliver. The roadmap covers FOCIL for censorship resistance, EIP-8288, Lean consensus, state management improvements, and advanced mempool upgrades including transaction privacy. The paper also raises obfuscation as a longer-term primitive that could expand what on-chain computation can offer. Buterin structures the argument through a section-by-section comparison of the Bitcoin whitepaper against Ethereum's 2015, 2025, and 2030 states to show how far the design goals have diverged from their origins.
Solana's Alpenglow upgrade has moved to public testnet, replacing TowerBFT with a new consensus protocol called Votor that reduces transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. Votor replaces on-chain vote accumulation across 32 slots with direct validator-to-validator messaging that settles in one or two rounds, requiring no changes to wallets or user-facing transaction flows. The rollout requires Agave 4.3 validator software, while Firedancer and Frankendancer clients do not yet support the upgrade, and a tentative mainnet date of September 28 has not been confirmed. The finality reduction would cut the hold periods exchanges impose before crediting deposits, the wait bridges require before releasing cross-chain funds, and the confirmation delays merchants currently face.
Offchain computation with onchain proofs creates a cryptographic bulletin board, not a world computer. Ethereum Foundation researcher Barnabé Monnot draws the line at state ownership: Ethereum's network effects derive from its liquidity and accessible onchain state, which allow permissionless actions like liquidations without dependence on brittle third-party APIs or centralized servers. Composability scales with how granular and accessible onchain state is, and offchain state resolution fractures that permissionless composability. The Ethlabs vision follows: L1 as liquidity hub and secure asset layer, with L2s as differentiated state neighborhoods that reinforce and extend L1 network effects while absorbing the offchain economy.
The real story isn't an imminent agentic bank run but the collapse of cheap bank funding broadly, which will compress return on equity for banks and brokers like Schwab and IBKR that rely on idle sweep-account cash. When agentic bank runs do happen, they'll be faster and more violent than human ones like SVB's, because AI agents have much lower behavioral diversity than humans.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed Bitcoin holdings of $16,000-$65,000 in a Coinbase wallet via his 2025 OGE financial disclosure, split across two capital gains entries. The filing shows no Bitcoin transactions above $1,000 during 2025, indicating Hegseth held a passive position throughout the year. His exposure is modest compared to President Trump's June filing, which reported over $50 million in Bitcoin and $1.2 billion in crypto-related earnings. The disclosures from multiple senior US executive branch officials mark Bitcoin ownership as established at the cabinet level, with Coinbase serving as the disclosed custodian for at least one sitting secretary.
