ANTHROPIC TO PAY SPACEX NEARLY $45 BILLION FOR COMPUTING DEAL

Anthropic has agreed to pay SpaceX nearly $45 billion over the next three years for compute resources. It will pay $1.25 billion per month until May 2029, with either party being able to end the agreement with 90 days' notice. The companies had earlier this month inked a deal that gave Anthropic 300 megawatts of computing capacity from a large SpaceX data center in Memphis known as Colossus 1. This partnership has expanded to include capacity at a second SpaceX data center.

AI SOLVES A LONGSTANDING GEOMETRY CONJECTURE

An OpenAI reasoning model autonomously disproved a major conjecture tied to the planar unit distance problem, an open question in combinatorial geometry that dates back to 1946. The proof introduced techniques from algebraic number theory and was independently verified by external mathematicians, marking one of the first cases where an AI system resolved a prominent unsolved mathematics problem.

ON BUILDING AGENTS FROM FIRST PRINCIPLES

Mishra strips away the TRL, Unsloth, and PRIME-RL framework abstractions to show that every agent-training system reduces to the same loop: prompt to model action to environment to reward to gradient update. He builds a toy tldraw-style text-to-diagram agent in pure Python where the model emits JSON create_shape and connect actions against a validating canvas, then layers a reward function combining JSON validity, schema compliance, layout quality, and semantic coverage of prompt keywords.

A BITTER LESSON FOR DATA FILTERING

New scaling studies reveal that using no data filtering may be optimal for large model pretraining in high compute, data-scarce settings. Large parameter models not only tolerate but benefit from including low-quality and distractor data. Contrary to prevailing beliefs, filtering out low-quality data may not be necessary with ample compute resources.

MIND-BLOWING GROWTH IS ABOUT TO PROPEL ANTHROPIC INTO ITS FIRST PROFITABLE QUARTER

Anthropic's revenue is set to more than double in the second quarter to $10.9 billion. The projections, disclosed to Anthropic's investors as part of an ongoing funding round, show how the company's sales have exploded since the start of the year. Its quarterly revenue is now growing faster than Google's and Facebook's in the run-up to their initial public offerings. The company might not remain profitable for the full year as it plans to increase spending due to its vast need for compute.

ACTIVITY-FOCUSED DESIGN

Activity-focused design centers on the actions people take to reach their goals, with the core unit of analysis being what people do and how they do it. Task analysis is one approach that breaks down user goals into activities and individual tasks, requiring designers to choose appropriate levels of specificity for their design context. The process involves first identifying the most important user goals, then determining the specific tasks needed to achieve them.

GOOGLE'S NEW APP ICONS WERE DESPERATELY NEEDED

Google is rolling out redesigned Workspace app icons after years of criticism that its previous “unified” designs made apps too difficult to tell apart. The updated icons keep a consistent gradient-based visual style but introduce more distinctive shapes, colors, and iconography, giving each app a clearer identity while improving legibility and accessibility. The redesign has been widely praised for balancing brand consistency with usability, while also adding a slightly nostalgic aesthetic inspired by early internet visuals and modern interface trends.

WHY MOTION DESIGN IS DEFINING MODERN DIGITAL COMMUNICATION

Motion design has become the driving force behind modern digital communication as platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels have shifted audience expectations from static to dynamic content. Rapid technological advancements have transformed graphic design from a supporting visual element into a core marketing tool that captures attention and drives engagement. While static design still plays a supporting role, motion graphics — with animation, movement, and sound — create immersive experiences that stand out in today's fast-scrolling digital landscape.

THE REACT2SHELL STORY

A security researcher describes finding React2Shell, a critical remote code execution flaw in React's undocumented “Flight” protocol used by Server Components and Next.js. Over a week, he and a collaborator discovered that the protocol's handling of complex objects and JavaScript “thenables” could be abused to hijack React's internals and chain function calls into arbitrary code execution. He reported it to Meta on November 30, and Meta confirmed it within roughly 17 hours and released a fix and advisory by December 3.

HOW TO WRITE "GARBAGE CODE" (BY LINUS TORVALDS)

Linus Torvalds, the creator of Git and Linux, says that overly complex or abstracted code, like unnecessary helper functions, makes code maintainability and understanding worse. It increases cognitive burden and, in some cases, it makes sense to repeat code to reduce human and LLM context switching. Code should be optimized for readability and ease of iteration.
