THE COST OF LINK INSERTIONS, BASED ON ~420K SITES

Link insertions look like a low-cost link-building tactic, but the market is dominated by low-quality sites. The average insertion costs $179 (versus $461 for a guest post), yet 97.5% of sites selling insertions fall into the low quality tier and only 0.34% of sites qualify as high quality. Don't assume lower cost equals better value because most paid insertion opportunities sit on sites with little traffic or authority. Use a targeted outreach strategy to find and pitch relevant, authoritative posts that would genuinely benefit from a link to your content.

ANTHROPIC'S SAFETY SUPERPOWER

Many people think that Anthropic's public statements around its model releases are mostly scare-mongering for the sake of marketing. However, its models are very impressive, and Anthropic's cautious rollout of Mythos was justified. The model is definitely more capable of identifying and exploiting security issues than previous generations. The problem with public releases is that guardrails can be jailbroken, which is what happened shortly after release.

THE GOLDEN RULE OF CUSTOMIZABLE SELECT

Customizable select, a new feature coming to Safari 27, allows developers to fully control the appearance of 'select' elements without the need for JavaScript libraries or endless 'div' elements. Ensuring this built-in control works well for everyone requires making sure developers always provide text content or accessible text attributes in their 'option' elements. This provides a better UX, better accessibility, and better progressive enhancement.

THE WEB WE KNOW IS GOING TO DISAPPEAR

The web is now shifting from search engines to AI chat interfaces. The open place where people search, click, read, browse, publish, and discover is being replaced by something more centralized and much harder to escape. Websites are increasingly becoming infrastructure for machines. The web will likely still exist in the future, but it may no longer be where people go.

THE ONCE AND FUTURE FABLE #2

The US government forcing Anthropic to take down all access to Fable and Mythos seems like a stupid decision. However, it is unknown what motivated the government to make the decision, how much they understand the mechanisms of the technology, whether they demanded or are demanding a narrow fix or a global fix, what they intend to do next, and what they are trying to accomplish. This could just be a terrible misunderstanding that can be sorted out quickly.

A GUIDE TO AI INFERENCE ENGINEERING

Inference engineering is the discipline of running trained AI models in production efficiently. It involves working with low-level GPU code, model serving frameworks, and the cloud infrastructure that ties them together. Engineers need to optimize for a combination of latency, throughput, cost, and quality, depending on the product they're supporting. Inference engineering is now a broad speciality that any company running serious AI workloads invests in.

OWNING VS. RENTING INTELLIGENCE

Fireworks CEO Lin Qiao uses this week's Mythos shutdown to reframe the open-model conversation from cost to control, arguing a company built on intelligence it didn't own suddenly found itself exposed to decisions it couldn't influence. The playbook Fireworks ran with Ramp, Cursor, and Harvey already proves a tuned open model matches frontier quality at a fraction of the cost, but the deeper question is who owns the intelligence your product runs on.

SHOULD YOU POST-TRAIN YOUR OWN MODEL?

General frontier models are the right starting point for 0-to-1 prototypes and understanding workflows, but for the handful of power-law use cases critical to a company's mission, product, and margin, the answer is increasingly to post-train your own model. Those use cases are where the differentiated data lives and where hard constraints on cost, latency, and reliability make a general model's single fixed tradeoff a liability.
