CZECH CYBER AGENCY NUKIB FLAGS CHINESE ESPIONAGE RISKS TO CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Czech cybersecurity agency NUKIB warned of increasing risks from Chinese-linked technologies in vital sectors such as energy, healthcare, transport, and government, citing APT31's attacks on Czech ministries. The agency pointed out risks from Chinese devices like IP cameras, PV inverters, smart meters, phones, cars, and AI models that can send data to or be controlled remotely from China. NUKIB stressed that Chinese laws give authorities broad powers to access data and force private companies to cooperate in state-led spying, urging Czech organizations to implement proper protections against these cyber threats.

HOW MANY ADS IS TOO MANY?

The old limit of 6 ads per ad set on Meta is no longer as relevant. With the rollout of the Andromeda system and new creative AI tools, Meta now promotes creative diversification across formats, styles, and messaging angles. Advertisers are seeing success with ad sets containing up to 50 ads, thanks to Meta's ability to handle variation more intelligently. Meta's new algorithmic approach appears less sensitive to budget thresholds, allowing broad testing without the old distribution penalties.

INSIDE PEACH & LILY'S UNCONVENTIONAL INFLUENCER MARKETING STRATEGY

Peach & Lily's latest launch skipped the usual influencer playbooks and opted for a blind test approach. The brand sent its new product in unbranded bottles to 14 experts across dermatology, esthetics, and cosmetic chemistry. These influencers received minimal ingredient details and were invited to share authentic first impressions on TikTok and Instagram before any brand name was disclosed. The content had no trending audio or effects and leaned fully into face-to-camera education. The campaign generated 5X the engagement of previous efforts and racked up over 1M impressions within two hours of the reveal at a New York City launch event.

RETAIL MEDIA UNPACKED: WILL ADS IN AI KILL RETAIL MEDIA?

AI agents could disrupt the retail media market if offline shopping shifts online faster and consumers adopt agent-driven purchasing. Ads in Copilot have 73% higher click-through rates, 16% stronger conversion rates, and 33% shorter purchase journeys than traditional search. In cases with purchase intent, Copilot increased purchases within 30 minutes by 53%. This performance threatens retail media's core revenue streams, particularly on-site and off-site advertising. For now, adoption of AI-enabled shopping is limited, leaving a window for retailers and brands to adapt.

THE WHOP CHOP: HOW WE CUT A RAILS TEST SUITE AND CI TIME IN HALF

Whop's Rails test suite runtime was cut in half by using TestProf and StackProf to identify performance bottlenecks. The biggest win came from disabling Rails' verbose SQL logging and query log tags in the test environment, which eliminated I/O overhead from thousands of database queries being written to disk. Additional optimizations included disabling Sentry logging during tests and addressing FactoryBot overhead, reducing single process test runs from ~25 minutes to ~12 minutes and CI runs from ~4 minutes to ~2 minutes.

STOP SHIPPING PNGS IN YOUR GAMES

Using PNGs for game textures is suboptimal. There are better alternatives like KTX2 and DDS. These formats are designed for texture data, such as features like pregenerated mipmaps, cubemaps, and GPU-compatible compression (like BCn) for improved storage, VRAM usage, and performance. Tools like Zex can help export to these formats, as most image editors lack native support.

WHY LANGUAGE MODELS HALLUCINATE

This research paper from OpenAI investigates why language models like ChatGPT hallucinate. Current training and evaluation methods inadvertently reward guessing over admitting uncertainty, as accuracy-focused scoreboards prioritize correct answers, even if obtained through chance. This incentivizes models to guess instead of abstaining when unsure, leading to confident errors on low-frequency facts that are difficult to predict.

GOOGLE CHROME AT 17 - A HISTORY OF OUR BROWSER

Google Chrome launched on September 2, 2008, with a multi-process architecture that isolated tabs into separate processes for better stability, along with the V8 JavaScript engine that improved web app performance. The browser evolved from a small skunkworks project by ex-Firefox engineers at Google into a platform used by billions. It pioneered technologies like SPDY (which became HTTP/2) and QUIC (which became HTTP/3).

AN ANT QUEEN MASS PRODUCES CLONED SONS OF ANOTHER SPECIES

An ant queen from the species Messor ibericus was observed producing cloned males of another species, Messor structor. The two species split about 5 million years ago. When the Messor ibericus queen makes daughters, she mixes her DNA with sperm to create hybrids, but when she makes sons, she erases her own DNA entirely, resulting in males that are exact clones. The queen had stored the sperm of the other species in her reproductive tract, resulting in sons with the other species' genome.

HOW I SOLVED A DISTRIBUTED QUEUE PROBLEM AFTER 15 YEARS

Reddit used a simple and scalable queue architecture to record upvotes that scaled well, but broke in all sorts of tricky ways. The company eventually moved to durable queues, which enabled failed jobs to resume from their last completed step, meaning no data was lost when there were program crashes. Durable queues work by combining task queues with durable workflows, which helps reliably orchestrate workflows of many parallel tasks. Architecturally, they resemble conventional queues, but use a persistent store as both message broker and backend.
