LENS SOCIAL MEDIA PROTOCOL UNVEILS LAYER 3 SCALING SOLUTION

While all the rage lately has been L2s, the team behind Lens, a decentralized social media protocol, has started beta-testing Momoka, a Layer 3 scaling solution. The Ethereum ecosystem is shifting towards Layer 3 solutions, otherwise known as AppChains, to further scale the base chain. Lens' Momoka is an Optimistic Layer 3 data availability layer, helping to reduce on-chain storage requirements and costs. It processes Polygon transactions off-chain and stores them on a data availability layer. Scaling solutions like this are going to be necessary to onboard the masses to crypto, especially when web3 games and social media platforms begin to gain traction.

THE KINGDOM OF BHUTAN HAS BEEN QUIETLY MINING BITCOIN FOR YEARS

Bhutan has apparently been utilizing its hydroelectricity reserves to power a state-owned Bitcoin mining operation. The project, which began a few years ago, remained undisclosed until recently. This comes to light as Bhutan has been in talks with Nasdaq-listed Bitdeer to build a 100 MW Bitcoin mining data center in the country and only a couple weeks after reports that the country’s alleged sovereign wealth fund had been investing in crypto. Bhutan's growing involvement in the crypto space has caused concern among international supporters, especially as it seemed to keep its involvement in the space under wraps.

FBI SEARCHES HOME OF TOP FTX EXECUTIVE

The FBI searched the home of Ryan Salame, a former FTX executive and major Republican campaign donor. Salame has recently come under scrutiny due to the $24 million in campaign contributions he made during last year’s primaries. These contributions were part of an aggregate $90 million worth of donations made to political campaigns by former FTX employees. The crux of the scrutiny is that authorities and court filings are claiming most of these funds were misappropriated from FTX exchange users. The search indicates the ongoing investigation into FTX's collapse, as federal prosecutors prepare for the trial of Sam Bankman-Fried, the cryptocurrency exchange's founder, who faces charges of fraud and illegal campaign finance schemes.

SUI PERFORMANCE UPDATE

As it gears up for mainnet launch on May 3, Sui has achieved a peak throughput between 10,871 to 297,000 transactions per second with 100 globally distributed validators as it has been running tests on the network. The time to finality is around 480 milliseconds. Sui uses Programmable Transaction Blocks (PTB), allowing complex, composable sequences of transactions with atomic execution. PTB supports up to 1024 transactions, enabling unbounded expressivity and efficiency. Sui plans to refine scalability and benchmark tooling, horizontal scalability for intra-validator scaling, and resilience to individual validator under-performance in the future.

BLOCKCHAIN LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS

TXRANK, a dynamic, real-time tool for detecting anomalous blockchain transactions, generates tracing representations of activity and trains a large language model as an Intrusion Detection System. Traditional models have well-defined search spaces, rules, and patterns, but TXRANK is unrestricted in these ways, enabling it to detect a broader set of anomalies. Tested on Ethereum transactions, it effectively identified abnormal transactions in a dataset of 68 million transactions with an average throughput of 2,284 transactions per second. Contributions to the crypto ecosystem through this work include custom data encoding, domain-specific tokenization, and a tree encoding method tailored for EVM trace representation.
