Consistent hashing is an algorithm that minimizes key recomputation when a hash table's size changes, specifically in distributed caching scenarios. The traditional hashing approach suffers from complete cache invalidation upon node additions or removals. Consistent hashing maps both nodes and items onto a circle, assigning items to the nearest node clockwise, limiting the impact of node changes.
This study tested 11 different data formats for LLM understanding by feeding GPT-4.1-nano 1,000 employee records and assessing its ability to answer questions accurately. Markdown-KV had the highest accuracy, while CSV and JSONL performed poorly, suggesting that format impacts LLM comprehension a lot. However, Markdown-KV also used more tokens than the most token-efficient format of CSV.
The Thinking Machines Lab published research on Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA), a more efficient fine-tuning method for LLMs. Their findings show that LoRA can achieve similar performance to full fine-tuning when applied to all layers, especially MLP layers, and when not constrained by capacity limitations relative to dataset size. The study also found that optimal learning rates for LoRA are consistently 10x higher than those for full fine-tuning, and offers insights into setting LoRA hyperparameters.
While engineers are often tools in the game of corporate politics, they can strategically align their skills and ideas with company-wide mandates or executive priorities. By preparing multiple technical solutions that address various organizational concerns, engineers can proactively offer solutions when the "flavor of the month" arises. This allows engineers to control the direction of technical programs and avoid the implementation of less effective ideas.
It's important to prioritize tasks that drive measurable business impact over technical improvements that lack user value. This dev spent time focusing on software modernization without considering business priorities, which ended up slowing down his career advancement.
This author, who has five years of experience as a startup CTO, goes over the challenges of building a tech team, transitioning to a new platform, and the personal sacrifices involved.

Sera UI is an open-source UI component library built for React and Next.js, using Tailwind CSS for easy customization and responsive design. It has pre-built, reusable components with engaging animations powered by Framer Motion and built-in Lucide React icons.
Run is a command-line tool built in Rust that acts as a polyglot command runner and REPL for over 25 programming languages. It simplifies multi-language development by providing a unified interface for executing code, removing the need to manage individual compilers and interpreters.
Sora is implementing two major changes based on user feedback: granting rightsholders greater control over character generation, including options to limit or prevent their use, and exploring revenue-sharing models for videos featuring their characters. This control addresses rightsholders' interest in "interactive fan fiction" while allowing them to manage character usage.
The increasing use of AI and vibe coding is leading to a surge of poorly written code, creating a need for skilled devs to clean up the mess.
This dev's team averted a potential calendar system crash by implementing a temporary, unconventional solution (using negative integers for primary keys) to buy time for a proper migration without disrupting customer integrations.
Anthropic's Claude Developer Platform now offers context editing and a memory tool, powered by Claude Sonnet 4.5, to let devs build more capable AI agents that can handle long-running tasks by managing context windows.
A fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) of South Korea destroyed the government's cloud storage system, resulting in the permanent loss of work files for 750,000 civil servants due to the lack of external backups.
