Stelae is a small hosting service run by one person. Most of the technical decisions made stem from the fact that there is no team, no on-call rotation, and nobody to escalate to. The system assumes nobody will be there when something breaks, and tries to be boring enough for that to be fine. This post discusses what that looks like in the code.
