Treating “AI native” as a mandate to maximize AI usage risks replacing valuable existing interactions simply to make products appear technologically current. A better approach treats human behavior as the ecosystem and asks AI to fit naturally within it by reflecting intent, providing adaptable scaffolding, maintaining consistent mental models, and scaling work without overwhelming people. Successful AI products should also preserve human participation and skills, because excessive automation can erode motivation, competence, and the value users get from doing meaningful work themselves.
