Tech's red line has always been liability. As a technology matures, society sets more legal regimes, either through explicit regulation or case law. Previous technology waves have shown that industries can survive paying for the harms they cause. One would have to question the societal benefits of an industry if paying for the people it harms or kills is enough to kill the industry.
