Ethereum has hurt itself by neglecting to improve L1 scalability in favor of promoting L2s and data availability. Successful L2s would be better off building on a scalable L1, and the most secure chains will capture the most revenue and be the most scalable. On-chain Ethereum governance would remove power from the hands of developers and researchers.
