Mental models shape users' expectations of a system's functioning and their interaction with its interface. Discrepancies between these models and the actual system can lead to gaps in product understanding. There are two approaches to address this: adapting the system to align with users' existing mental models, or enhancing users' mental models to better mirror the system.
