MEMORY RECOGNITION AND RECALL IN USER INTERFACES

Summary from the TLDR Design newsletter

Users are more likely to recall items from memory when there is extra context than when they recognize the correct option in a list of choices. Understanding how human memory works will help you design better user interfaces based on recognition. A simple and intuitive interface promotes recognition because users are more likely to remember things that are easy to understand.
